So, it finally has started. The beginning of Winter!! After a bitter and strangely horrific wind storm across all of Europe, 5 days later, we experienced the snow that has been clogged up in the sky for a few months now. And it was joyous :) It started on Tuesday evening when i was going to the tea house for some tea and by the time i had left an hour later, there was already a good coat of snow on the ground and it just kept on a comin. And by the next day (in which it also was snowing all day), we had several upon several inches of snow. Wow, the beauty. And therefore, I sensed that many people were looking forward to enjoying it. I had had a fun experience. On Wednesday I was teaching my 8th grade class and unfortunately i had all of them (i usually just teach half at a time) so it makes it impossible to teach anything, and I was planning on playing a fun conversation game. But I came in and they ask if we can go outside and play in the snow. After some convincing, I told them that we have to decide how we can make it into an English game. So we decided that you can't say any Czech words when you are outside and if you say anything, then everyone will return inside. (of course that didnt work, but for the most part they were trying). And it was a lot of fun and they were speaking English and playing in the snow and throwin snowballs... but then it turned sour when they all started turning on me. So i threw some of them down into the snow and then they were all upon me and it was too much for me to handle (i didn't have a coat or gloves or anything), so it was at this time where i decided that we'd had enough and so we all went inside... quite wet at that. It was a good time though and lots of fun. Probably one of my more enjoyable lessons. :) it's fun. so... hope all you enjoy the weather, whatever it may be like. And talk to you later. peace.

I was POISONED!!
Wow, cool. So I was poisoned last week. I can literally say that i have been poisoned now. That's what my illness has been. And who poisoned me none other than my roommate Andrew. I knew he was jealous, but i would never have thought he would try such a thing. Actually, he poisoned me because he too had been poisoned by the dastardly little salmonella virus. So, for 4 days I was quite up a creek because of this so-called poisoning. But things are almost 100% now. It's funny how many times I've escaped death... I've been poisoned, shot at, almost hit by a train, run over by a car, kidnapped by pirates, been eaten by rabid dogs.... (well i assume those the next ones to add). Ok, enjoy your day. Bye for now.

Bleary Weary Sick Days

That above is what I had inside me..... well... not exactly, but I had some virus, but not from a parasitic wasp. But I calculated the difference, and it proved to be quite minor. So... for the first time in earthly memory, I caught a virus, and i was enjoying the "Virus Rollercoaster 2000" that it was takin me on for 3 days. It was quite disgusting and not soo much pleasant actually. No eating, no sleeping, hyper dog that needs to go to the bathroom... what a better combination. And my roommate caught a worse version of this before me and was in the hospital during the time i had my hurrah with the little devils. But, with no help at all the the local ER in Kralupy, I got better...
Let me tell you a bit about this ER. So... the hospital itself is fairly a joke. We first have to buzz and be accepted into the ER which is just one door without any lights. And we walk through a few doors and a small waiting room and into a room where the entire ER staff for the evening are working... 2 women. Nothin against women, just sayin. So... i lay down and she touches my stomach a few times (i guess to make sure ii don't have appendicitis), asks me if it hurts, then asks ME if i have a temperature (to which my answer was yes, i think so) and then she never took it, and she took my blood pressure, and gave me medicine to help with my diarrhea (which didn't help at all), and said if i'm not better in the morning, go to a real hospital in prague. Quite an interesting place. As you can tell, I felt quite relieved i had visited the ER after that, I felt like I was in good hands there...
THat's my story for today. I took sick days yesterday and today and tomorrow I"ll be teaching again. I'm feelin a lot better. Which is nice. ok... peace

Když jsem byl na Kypru... (When I was in Cyprus...)

So... it all started a few months ago when me and my friend Stephen were tryin to figure out a place to go for Christmas since we would both be in Europe and not in America. We were looking for somewhere exotic yet not pricey to go to. Our choices slowly narrowed down to Cyprus and Istambul. So, after much consideration of the two, we decided that we knew absolutely nothing about Cyprus at the time being, so yea, let's go there. It sounds fairly exotic. So, we got out tickets and bought a couple travel books about the place so we could find out what really was on the up and up in Cyprus. We learned a lot about the place fairly quickly. For example... since the fall of Berlin, it's got the only divided capitol in the world, (the island is divided into Greeks and Turks). So it was a little interesting. There were lots of military guys everywhere. And next we realized that they drive on the left side of the road, like in England, so that would also be a bit strange for us. And we would have to rent a car cuz there is practically no public transportation on the island and to get to all the cool places, you need a car. Wow... so are you ready for the real story now? Ok, so I'll tell you how it all went down...
Day 1: We arrive into Larnaka (on the south) at 230 in the morning. We get out and find the rental agency that I booked and find that we've got a lot of extra charges that we have to pay (wow, it's not gonna be such a cheap trip i think). After the extra charges he asks if I want to get the full coverage (which includes insurance on tires, windshield, and something else), and at this point i think he's just tryin to steal more from me, so i say heck no. So... we get into our car,

Day 2: We woke up a bit cold. I think the temp was about 40.

It was really cool. It overlooked the sea on a cliff and had an amphitheatre and several markets and houses. It was really a great time. Only thing is that it was windy.

Day 3: Day 3 is when things start settling down a bit. Today was our day to relax. Today we woke up and had some breakfast and went to this really nice internet cafe and were on the net for a bit and then we relaxed and had a really big and nice cappucino and it was beautiful.

So we walked around for a bit, and then got back in the car and went to this archeological site called "The Tomb of the Kings" which is an old burial groud for elite rich people. There are a lot of caves and carved in them are tombs which were really interesting.

We walked to this one restaurant that we wanted to go to because they give you a complimentary bottle of wine (which sounded cool), but apparently they had recently closed and this new Syrian restaurant, called Damascus, had opened, and had only been open for 4 days!! We ordered a bottle of wine (which was without a doubt the best wine I'd ever had!) and we ordered the traditional Cypriot meal called "meze". This meal includes just about everything on the menu... quite litereally. Just a sample of about everything on the menu... if you can't believe it, look at the pic I have, and what's showing is only about half of what we got. It was quite an experience to have and a wonderful place to have it. I'd reccomend this restaurant to anyone going to Cyprus.

Day 4: Day 4 was a beautiful day, maybe the most beautiful for us.

We had heard about this really amazing beach, Lara Beach, but it was off the beaten track, but we wanted to try and get there anyways.

Day 5:Our last day on Cyprus. We awoke with ease and spent lots of time relaxing and lookin pretty. We turned on the tube for the first time and happened upon a stupid Christmas film with Ben Affleck that we couldn't turn off, so we ventured out finally in the early afternoon into the rain and walked around Agia Napa for a bit and then continued on. We wandered near the border with the north into a city that had some kind of National Museum about all the unrest in the area and this is the same place where a lot of unrest happened. So we watched some films and looked out into a ghost town in Northern Cyprus which as been evacuated.

So it was easy to waste away a few hours at this place before we had to head to the airport at 11pm. So, we finally made it back to the airport with the car intact and only one small problem with the tire and a perfectly clean windshield.
